Some time ago Silke sent me a baton and lazy as I am, I didn’t answer it yet. But now I finally found the time to answer it, or rather picture it: It’s about showing my desktop. And here it is, my supercool wide screen desktop with my beloved doggy on it!

Today I’m in the mood of forwarding it, so I send it to SuMu, Uwe, Prinzzess, Antje and Conny, as I’d like to know how your desktops look like. Of course everybody else can also pick it up.

I’m just browsing the WordPress Germany board. As usual there are some questions about widgets: Why does this or that widget not work, why doesn’t my widget show up, why, why.

I don’t like widgets. I don’t use widgets. A sidebar without widgets is much easier and better to design than a sidebar with widgets. I’ve got control over what is displayed in my sidebar, if it’s valid and so on. Especially this is important, if you prefer having a valid page as I do, badly written widgets could foil you.

In my themes I provide for download the widgets also caused problems. I added a class to the sidebars. In widgets this class doesn’t exist, so all those who used widgets got a sidebar that was displayed totally wrong, withour colors and borders. I fixed that bug, but the new formatting constrains the facilities of designing a little.

What about you? Do you use widgets, and if so, why?
